Join International Masonry Institute (IMI) and major ceramic tile industry organizations for an AIA-registered continuing education program on designing with tile, qualifying for 3 Health Safety Welfare (HSW) learning units. Attendees will develop an understanding of the various types of tile, basic setting methods, grouts, and other and components of the tile assembly. They will learn about allowable grout joint width, limitations for lippage, mortar coverage, and tile bonding patterns. The program will also take a close look at thin Gauged Porcelain Tile (GPT) Panels, including detailed information on the new ANSI standards for this new product category. It will discuss environmental impacts as related to sustainability and occupant health. The program will also address qualified labor language in the architectural specifications including recommended language from the 2017 TCNA Handbook, manufacturers’ literature, MasterSpec, and other recognized industry standards. The program culminates with a demonstration of some of the key skill areas required of tile setters via livestream from IMI’s national training center, and an interactive discussion of how to implement best tile design and construction practices on your tile projects.
