iQ Power Tools Unveils New Advisory Board

iQ Power Tools, leading manufacturer of dustless masonry, tile and concrete power tools for the construction industry, has announced its new advisory board. According to president Joel Guth, “Better understanding the needs of customers is at the core of any good business. When we know what our customers want, we can better match product development with their needs. Based upon this philosophy, our firm has created a tile industry advisory board, comprised of three prestigious National Tile Contractor Association (NTCA) 5-Star Contractor Members.”

Representing the contractor community and helping bring the innovative iQ product lines to new users and new vertical markets are:

  • Erin E. Albrecht, M.Ed., Operations Director/Pre-construction of J&R Tile Inc. of San Antonio, TX. An established tile industry leader, Erin serves as the NTCA’s State Director of Texas and member of the Education & Training Committee. “Our core values at J&R revolve around encouraging individual ability/creativity and continuous self-improvement,” commented Albrecht. “When our Certified Tile Installers (CTI’s) literally DRAGGED me to the IQ booth at Coverings 2016 to see their new saw, the owners and I knew it was something.  Within one year, this saw was in use at the CTI Hands-on Testing & Installation Design Showcase at Coverings 2017!  IQ’s commitment to advancing the tile and stone trade speaks for itself.”
  • James Woelfel, Vice President and Estimator at Artcraft Granite, Marble, & Tile Co. Mesa, AZ. A tireless advocate for high standards and proper methods, Woelfel serves as Chairman of NTCA’s Technical Committee and Chairman of the Board for the NTCA, following his two-year term as President of the Association.  He is one of only a few tile contractors in the United States to sit on the Tile Council of North America (TCNA) Handbook Committee for Tile Installation and the ANSI ASC 108 Committee for ceramic tile installation.  “The opportunity to participate in field testing and product feedback is mutually beneficial for a manufacturer and a tile contractor, because it allows for the authentic flow of information to improve products that help our industry,” said Woelfel. “Serving on the iQ Advisory Board allows our teams in the field access to new technology that will, in turn, help other contractors as more products are developed.”
  • Mike DeGiusti, owner of Terra-Mar, Inc., a 5-Star contractor in Oklahoma City, OK. Working with his father since the age of 12, DeGiusti has served on the boards of Associated General Contractors of Oklahoma and American Subcontractors Association of Oklahoma. He currently serves on the NTCA Technical Committee and is the NTCA State Ambassador for Oklahoma. “I have been on several advisory boards in the past and love the interaction with new products,” commented DeGiusti. “When I first met the iQ Team, I was impressed. They were very genuine and have a true passion for our industry and for the safety of workers. Their new saw is a game-changer. Our crews are fighting over it… and, the demos I conduct at workshops have received all positive feedback!”

This is an outstanding group of industry leaders,” continued Guth. “They have decades of experience in the tile industry and by having them as a part of the iQ planning process, we are achieving a much deeper understanding of what they need in order to succeed,” he declared. “The Advisory Board is integral in pointing us in the direction of innovation. Their expertise in the field helps us review developmental products, services and programs that will benefit them and their industry. We’re excited to work with them as we move forward in our efforts to make iQ Power Tools reach its objectives of strong growth, incursion into new markets and most importantly, creating safe and efficient workplaces for our workers out in the field.”

What these individuals have already achieved is very impressive. We have no doubt they’ll be invaluable guides for us as iQ Power Tools expands,” added Paul Guth, Vice President Research and Development of iQ Power Tools. “Bringing them aboard also demonstrates our continued commitment to advance the tile industry. They talk, we listen, we design tools needed to help them with the challenges faced everyday on a jobsite.”

About iQ Power Tools

iQ Power Tools manufactures a comprehensive range of premium power tools with integrated dust collection systems for the concrete, masonry, hardscape and tile sectors. The company was founded by third-generation masons Joel and Paul Guth, who have logged over 30 years each in the masonry industry. Decades of experience taught them about dust problems; their company started out creating tools to solve their own problems only to realize these same issues affected all contractors… mess, money and a threat to the health and safety of the industry. iQ Power Tools envisions a future where their innovation helps create a 100% dust-free environment: jobsites are safer, work practices are healthier… and, the construction industry becomes even more sustainable.

MAPEI offers certified, sustainable tile mortars and grouts

An important issue that manufacturers must address in today’s marketplace is the ability to balance product performance with environmentally sustainable formulations and manufacturing processes. The clarity with which the manufacturer reports on both of these products aspects is a measure of the company’s transparency to its customers and end users.  Third-party certification of products and their manufacturing processes is one method of displaying transparency.

MAPEI is a champion of the Tile Council of North America’s Green Squared program for third-party-certified green products for the installation of tile and stone. MAPEI has a select set of mortars and grouts that are SCS third-party certified to the TCNA’s Green Squared standard (ANSI A138.1), making them eligible for a special LEED v4 pilot credit.

The TCNA reported in a recent news release, “Specifically, Green Squared Certified products now qualify to contribute toward a new LEED Pilot Credit offered for using ‘Certified Multi-attribute Products and Materials.’ The credit requires that certification details, including which Green Squared electives were satisfied, are disclosed, and that a product lifecycle assessment (LCA) has been conducted.”

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has also added Green Squared Certified products to its current recommendations made to all U.S. government purchasing officials to aid in identifying and procuring environmentally sustainable products and services.

The MAPEI products that have been Green Squared Certified include MAPEI Ultralite Mortar, MAPEI Ultralite Mortar Pro, MAPEI Ultralite S2 mortar, MAPEI Ultralite S1 Quick mortar Ultracolor® Plus FA premium grout and new MAPEI Flexcolor 3D ready-to-use grout with translucent/iridescent effects. These products can be specified by architects as a sustainable tile installation system.

MAPEI also has TCNA industry-average Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Health Product Declarations (HPDs) and VOC emission certifications (CA-DPH 01350) for these products and many others, which can contribute to LEED v4 as well as to sustainability programs such as the Living Building Challenge (LBC) and the Well Building Standard.

“TCNA has been a leader in providing sustainable tile system initiatives with both Green Squared certification and EPDs that have benefited both the industry and MAPEI in offering our customers a complete system, from tile to mortar to grout,” said Cris Bierschank, Technical Services Sustainability Manager for MAPEI Americas.

Arley Wholesale, Inc., a family-owned, third generation wholesale supplier of ceramic, porcelain, stone, glass mosaic tiles and installation materials will be hosting its 15th Annual Arley

Wholesale Tile & Stone Exposition on Tuesday, June 13th, at the historic Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton, Pennsylvania. This will conclude the annual three-day celebration, which includes the highly popular Arley Golf Classic on Monday.

Arley’s President, Scott Levy proudly stated that 2017 is once again a banner year for the firm… and, at this year’s event, strategic new developments to “bolster the business of everyone involved” will be unveiled.

“Our private label program, Qualis Ceramica, will be debuting more beautiful and unique selections. By now, our customers know we guarantee these products cannot be sold online, so they already enjoy a strong comfort buying and selling Qualis Ceramica materials. We’re expanding the collection to offer a few more “wood-look” porcelains with new, different sizes, and a large variety of various “natural stone-look” porcelain tiles with polished surfaces, waterjet-cut deco pieces, amazing slate replicas and much, much more.”

Levy added, “Our Riviera Collection, which includes the Escape line, will feature mosaics made with exquisite combinations of stone, glass and porcelain. The Inedita Essential line features dimensional tile in five modern color combinations with a variety of installation possibilities that use light as an artistic dimension.  We’re going to offer these higher-end materials at incredible prices and help our clients recognize enhanced profit margins when selling them at a price point well below current market choices.

“And,” continued Levy, “We will unveil an extensive lava stone program. This is the result of many months of R&D to ultimately bring to the specification community, something new, exciting… and, very unique.” Levy went on to say that a number of Arley lines, which for years still have strong appeal, are being replaced and thus, will be offered at “tremendous values.”

“We also have a number of new vendors with whom we’re excited to be partnering. One is sundry manufacturer Profilitec, which now provides us with profiles for all types of flooring installation. Another is SunTouch Heating Systems, an advanced and affordable product line that provides soothing radiant heat under any type of tile or stone flooring and even driveways!. Arley is also offering a complete line of shower systems, which deliver a multitude of options so that our customers’ customers can actually design the bathroom of their dreams,” beamed Levy.

Arley is also known for their constant investment in technology to help their customers sell more product.  “The Arley App has been an amazing sales tool for our customers, but since it is available only to iPad users, we’re now offering ‘Click-on Tile,’ a program which anybody can use on any electronic device,” Levy continued. “Via this program, when onscreen, users will instantly see how our products appear when installed in their very own rooms.

“We’ve even expanded our entire stone program,” concluded Levy. “And, much, much more. Last year’s event was cited as being our best ever. We want 2017’s experience to exceed that. We thoroughly believe it will! At our Tile & Stone Exposition on the 13th, we invite both customers and prospects to see for themselves.”
